An SPU is also used in place of a 2901 Line Protection Unit when cable location tones are employed as part of the cable management system. The SPU includes a bond bar which can be opened for isolating and testing. The SPU is a surge arrestor device using a three element maximum duty total failsafe gas tube arrestor to provide high surge current protection and transient suppression. An SPU is typically used at the termination end of a monitored cable or strap through site.
