Norscan Attending India Telecom 2009
11/30/2009

India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world with a growth rate of 6.7% and having the forth largest GDP. The telecom sector has seen tremendous growth with about 428 million mobile connections and 109 million internet users and still growing at an astounding rate. Business has also grown in e-commerce and cloud computing - with small and medium sized businesses shifting to cloud computing for their ERP systems to better manage their businesses and reduce costs.

These high value customer services have put pressure on network owners to improve the quality of their networks, avoid outages, increase efficiency and provide better services. The rise of a number of telecom companies and the free market has given customers the option of switching to any network provider of their choice that is able to provide better services. This market environment puts increasing pressure on network owners to focus on quality and improve their networks.

Physical networks (i.e the actual cable) continuously face a harsh environment including rodents (e.g. rats) eating cables, flooding of splice closures, cable degradation due to earth movements especially near roads or trains, lightning damage, and the inability to locate cable during construction. These problems can lead to network outages over time, and therefore customer dissatisfaction and lost revenue.

Norscan will be present at India Telecom 2009 to discuss solutions to such problems including a system to continuously monitor the cable and detect damage, eliminating preventable outages. Preventing an outage is far easier than dealing with an outage.
